Stolen Fire Engine

In the early hours of Saturday Morning 5th March Larne Fire Station was broken into and their Fire Appliance was Stolen. The Appliance was driven into town damaging cars and eventually crashing into a house.

Thankfully no members of the public where injured but the Fire Appliance sustained quiet a bit of damage. 2 men aged 19 & 66 where later arrested by Police

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Dale Ashford said someone could have been seriously hurt in the incident. “It’s absolute devastation,” he told UTV.

“A fire engine, which appears to have been stolen from one of our stations, was driven up here and wrecked the scene, with a lot of damage to vehicles in the street, and ended up in the garden of a house as well.

“The fire engine is seriously damaged and that’s going to have an effect on the community – but we still have crews on duty protecting the people of Larne today.

“This could have been a very different situation if it wasn’t at 4am. “If there had been more people out there could have been absolute carnage but thankfully there were very few if any injuries.”
