It's understood a chip pan may be to blame for a massive fire which destroyed a large part of the Shannon Oaks Hotel in Portumna. The fire broke out at around one o'clock Wednesday 7th Sept and Fire Services from Loughrea, Galway and Roscommon had to deal with low water pressure in their efforts to bring it under control. There were around 40 guests in the building at the time - everyone was evacuated and there were no injuries.
